During the pre-Christmas discount promotions, inspectors from the Czech Trade Inspection Authority inspected online retailers and traditional brick-and-mortar stores

(Prague, January 12, 2026) Last fall, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority launched a special inspection action focused on Black Friday-type discount events. The inspections took place in brick-and-mortar stores and online shops. The aim of the inspections was to verify sellers' compliance with their legal obligations to inform consumers about discounts and to prevent deceptive practices that could mislead consumers.

(Brno, December 17, 2025) During this year's pre-Christmas period, inspectors of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority, Southern Moravia and the Region of Zlín Inspectorate, focused, among other things, on the sale of toys at local markets and marketplaces in the region. As part of an inspection action in the first half of December, they carried out 11 inspections and found deficiencies in a total of 10 of them. The inspectors checked 19 types of toys, of which 18 were found to have deficiencies in product labeling and missing general warnings.

In the third quarter of this year, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority inspected the obligations of sellers when providing discounts on product prices

(Prague, 11 December 2025) In the third quarter of this year, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority focused on the fulfilment of obligations arising from Act No.634/1992 Coll., on Consumer Protection, in connection with the provision of discounts when offering and selling goods. Within the framework of the inspection action, it carried out a total of 181 inspections; violations of legal regulations were detected in 83 inspections, i.e. 45.86% of the total number of inspections carried out.

(Prague, December 4, 2025) In the third quarter of this year, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority continued its inspections of compliance with the ban on the offer for sale, sale and storage of products infringing certain intellectual property rights. (Prague, 27 November 2025) The safety of consumers and the prevention of damage to health and property were the main reasons for the preparation of the amendment to Act No. 206/2015 Coll., on pyrotechnic products and their handling (hereinafter referred to as the "Act"), which introduces new rules for the placing and supply of pyrotechnic products on the market and their handling with effect from 1 December 2025.

The counterfeits seized during the inspection activities were handed over by the staff of the Regional Inspectorate of the CTIA of the Pilsen and Karlovy Vary Regions for humanitarian purposes

(Pilsen, 6 November 2025) At the end of October, employees of the Czech Trade Inspection Authority, Inspectorate of the Pilsen and Karlovy Vary Regions, handed over a total of 2,738 pieces of clothing seized during the inspection activities of the CTIA due to violations of certain intellectual property rights to four educational and health-social institutions.

BLACK FRIDAY 2025 – Consumer advice for safer shopping

(Prague, November 5, 2025) The term "Black Friday" has been used in recent years as a synonym for discount promotions in general, its use is no longer limited in time and from the consumer's point of view it indicates a discount. The increased activity of consumers and retailers during the pre-Christmas shopping period or the post-Christmas and seasonal sales also brings increased risks in terms of sales integrity. Extraordinary inspection action “Alcohol, Drugs and Youth 2025” again revealed the sale of alcohol and tobacco products to juveniles

(Prague, 8 October 2025) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority has evaluated the extraordinary inspection action "Alcohol, Drugs and Youth 2025". In cooperation with other state administration, local government and public health protection authorities, it carried out a total of 463 inspections and found infringements of legal regulations in 226 inspections. The inspection action used invited persons under the age of 18 in 432 investigations. In 197 cases, alcohol was sold or served to juveniles.
