CTIA took counterfeits for 24 million CZK

(Prague, November 11, 2019) Inspections aiming at counterfeits of different kinds of consumer goods offered to consumers in the Czech market continued in the third quarter of 2019. During the year, CTIA officers took 10,666 items of products infringing certain intellectual property rights, i.e. in almost 16% of 312 inspections. These were counterfeits in the value of originals amounting to CZK 24,114,613. In total 281 fines amounting to CZK 4,568,500 were lawfully imposed in the third quarter of 2019.

Inspections at Golden Helmet and Velká Pardubická 2019

(Pardubice, October 30, 2019) The traditional Golden Helmet and Velká Pardubická attracted sport fans to come to the city of Pardubice. Stall sale at both venues was subject to an extraordinary inspection carried out by the CTIA Inspectorate of the Hradec Králové and Pardubice Regions. Breaches of the Act on Consumer Protection were detected in 5 of 9 inspected stands, which represented 56%.

Evaluation of international inspection of cots and carriers

(Prague, October 25, 2019) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority took part in an international inspection project focused on the safety of classic and travel cots and baby carriers. Within this project, in which 10 institutions of EU countries participated, the CTIA carried out an inspection of 10 types of cots and carriers and found violations of legal obligations in all cases. Three models showed a serious or high security risk.

CTIA inspected children’s drawing boards

(Brno, October 24, 2019) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority of the South Moravian and Zlín Regions evaluated an extraordinary inspection aimed at magnetic drawing boards for children. During three months it inspected 15 types of this popular toy and detected defects in 2 cases.

Restaurant operators discriminated at Václav Havel Airport

(Praha, October 22, 2019) The CTIA Inspectorate of the Central Bohemian Region and the Capital of Prague, in cooperation with the Customs Office in Prague–Ruzyně carried out an extraordinary inspection of workplaces and vending machines at the departure halls of the Václav Havel Airport. They carried out 7 inspections and found violations of law in 5 cases. Further, 6 vending machines showed no violations of law.

Check prices before buying timber for winter

(Praha, October 21, 2019) At the beginning of the heating season, the Czech Trade Inspection Authority advises consumers to check prices when buying firewood. The inspections carried out by the CTIA showed misconducts within the sale of firewood, especially in the area of prices. Some vendors even reported final prices to consumers without VAT, which is in contradiction with law.

An extraordinary inspection of gel toys was carried out in the summer

(Prague, October 14, 2019) The Czech Trade Inspection Authority of the Central Bohemian Region and the Capital of Prague has evaluated an extraordinary inspection which was carried out during the summer months. The inspectorate focused mainly on toys that are widely used by children in this period, namely products filled with gel. These products are sold as “slime” in the retail network.
